Self-Test Feature

How to Fix Your Unit:

If the “Self-Test” animation continues to occur on your device, STOP

using your Compass. To resolve issue, please call Safeguard Equipment at

1-(208)-773-9263 or email our team at [email protected]

COMPASS was designed with a built-in Self-Test function that ensures that every sensor is always operating

properly. Every time the device is turned on and periodically while it’s in use, the COMPASS does a background

test on its sensors to evaluate whether they are operating properly.

If an abnormality with one of the sensors is detected, COMPASS will respond by locking the unit out to all user

operations. When this happens, the user is notified by the two corner lights changing to

RED

 and

YELLOW

, as

shown in the image below.

On occasion, the unit’s Self-Test will lock out the device when it is first turned on. This most often happens when

the unit is in the vicinity of a detectable electrical field. Even proximity to a computer or other such device can

sometimes cause the COMPASS to lock the user out. If this happens, please see the instructions below on how to

reset the device if this should happen.

1.  If a fault from the Self-Test is detected, Compass will lock out all user functions and provide a

RED

 and

YELLOW

 lights in the corners.

2.  Once locked out, the user should return to an area where there are no electrical sources present. It is

important that the sensors are not detecting an electrical field when powering on.

3.  If Compass still fails to regain operations, then press and HOLD the center button for 10 seconds. At this

point you should see the battery level animation. Once this animation is complete, your device will be reset.

4.  Upon resetting the Compass, the sensitivity of the device will be set to HIGH. This is the factory pre-set

level. At this point the user can then manually adjust Compass to their desired sensitivity setting. This is

discussed under “Master Sensitivity Settings.” Once the device has been reset, the Compass is free be utilized

in normal operations.

5.  If Compass continues to provide the “Self-Test” lockout display, please stop using that device until a

Safeguard representative has been contacted.
