Warning:
Always ensure mains supply is disconnected before
installation, maintenance and lamp replacement.
1. General
The RS range of corrosion resistant, switch start fluorescent
luminaires are designed for use in adverse conditions such as high
humidity and corrosive atmospheres. They are designed to operate
between 0¡C and 25¡C (ambient temperature). The fittings are
designed to comply with BS 4533 and IEC598 and have an IP65
protection rating making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor
applications such as food factories, dairies, car parks, loading bays
and garages.
2. Installation (refer to Figure 1)
a. Remove the diffuser by unclipping the hinged toggle
assemblies.
b. Remove the fluorescent tube(s) by rotating through 90¡ and
lifting them out of the end caps.
c. Remove the gear tray by twisting the turnbuckles through 90¡.
d. Secure the body housing to its mounting surface using the 6mm
pre-drilled holes.
If mounting is by conduit suspension and BESA box fixing the
required holes will have to be drilled (21.0mm diameter) in the
body housing.
To meet the IP rating the fixing points must be sealed against
moisture ingress with rubber washers or sealing compound.
e. Introduce the wiring by removing either the 20mm plugged
entries (grommets) at either end of the body or drilling the body
at standard fixing centres using the sealing washers supplied to
seal the entry. Cables may be terminated by using the terminal
block provided (maximum conductor 6mm2).
If the mains cables pass adjacent to the ballast(s) then high
temperature cables rated at 150¡C, BS 6500 type E12, should
be used such as p.t.f.e. to BS G210 type B (
RS
stock nos. 359-
481 red, 359-469 black). Alternatively the individual conductors
should be sleeved using heat resisting sleeving.
f. Attach the gear tray to the body housing with the safety cords
(located on the screw stems), ensuring that the supply cables
are adjacent to the terminal block on the gear tray.
The gear tray can hang on the safety cords whilst wiring is
completed.
g. Re-fit the gear tray to the body housing by aligning the
turnbuckle fasteners through the slots and rotating the fasteners
through 90¡ to engage.
h. Insert the lamp into the lampholders and rotate the lamp to
engage the contacts (you should hear two "clicks").
i. Re-place the diffuser on the gasket seating in the body housing
and engage the toggle clips in the lip of the diffuser. A snap
action into position will secure.
