Concentric Flues:
a single, coaxial, 80mm diameter inner pipe / 125mm diameter outer pipe, flue sys-
tem can be fit directly on top of the water heater.
Flue Length:
the maximum flue length for coaxial flueing system is 13m total equivalent length. From
total equivalent length subtract 2m for 90˚ bends and 1m for 45˚ bends. There is no limit to the minimum
length of the flue.
Installations with total equivalent length of flue >7m must alter the flue length Dip Switch (see
page 36
).
Common Header (Cascade) Flues:
do not connect this appliance into any common header flue, cas-
cade system, or natural draught chimney. For information on these installations contact Rinnai.
Condensate disposal internal models
It is important that any condensate is kept away from the heat exchanger. The flue should tip away from
the unit without a condensate trap, and towards the unit if there is a trap. Condensate kits are not re-
quired if the flue is directly through the wall behind the unit. For these installations the terminal should
slope gently to the outside to prevent ingress of rain. Although no condensate is expected in flue runs
this short a small amount may occur at start up on very cold days. Care should be given to the place-
ment of the terminal to prevent risk from condensation. Condensation water can cause burns, and dur-
ing winter could create a slip hazard. It is the responsibility of the installer to decide the best place for
the terminal.
Flue lengths less than 1,5m do not require condensate disposal and the cap can be left on the conden-
sate collector component. Flues over 1,5m must have a condensate disposal method. For flue runs with
condensate disposal the horizontal sections should slope back towards the appliance and the rain termi-
nal should be used. The rain terminal should be mounted level through the wall. The flue should be
bracketed to prevent sagging. The drain pipe should be run in 22mm PVC, uPVC, or ABS pipe, copper
is not recommended. The drain pipe MUST be trapped.
