Measurement Settings

Meas

VNA provides measurement for S11, S12, and DTF. Press

Meas

to enter the

measurement setting menu. You can also tap the function keypad at the top of the

screen to select Meas.

Under the

Meas

menu, three measurement items are available: S11, S21, and DTF.

DTF (Distance to Fault) is a tool for antenna transmission line service maintenance,

line performance verification, and failure analysis.

In cable and antenna test, it provides functionality to measure cables for mechanical

defects in the system that cause a deterioration of the transmission quality. It is

based on network analysis time domain measurement, capable of locating the cable

problem, responsive to resistance, inductance, and capacitance failures, helpful for

engineers to locate the cable problem.

S11 Meas Setup

Open S11 parameter setting menu of the function selected in the

Meas

menu.

The main test process for S11 is as follows:

Set full span parameters.

Set IF BW.

Calibrate.

Use the self-defined standard kit to validate Smith and trace display.

Modify the frequency range and IF BW as required, and perform Step 3 and 4 for

several times.

Set average count, aperture step width, and other parameters.

Avg Number

Specifies the number of counts (N) for Average, Max Hold, and Min Hold.

It is valid when Trace Type is "Average". The greater the value of N, the smoother the

trace is displayed.

In Average, Max Hold, and Min Hold modes, when performing the single

measurement, the instrument stops sweeping after the sweep count has reached N.
