Rectal Temperature Taking
4.8.1 Make sure that the red probe / probe insert unit is attached. A separate probe
cover box for red probe are installed. Withdraw the probe and the Thermo-
meter turns on automatically.
An icon identifying rectal mode is always displayed provided the red probe
insert / probe assembly is attached. Pressing the position button on the front
panel to change mode has no effect.
4.8.2 Apply a new probe cover.
4.8.3 Insert the probe into the patient’s rectum. To ensure proper tissue contact,
angle the probe slightly after insertion.
4.8.4 Depth of insertion is recommended at ½” to ¾” (12 mm – 19 mm) for adults
and ¼” to ½” (6 mm – 13 mm) for children.
4.8.5 A “long beep” is sounded when measurement is complete and the final
temperature is displayed.
However, in instances when no temperature is detected or the temperature
does not fast stabilize, the thermometer will automatically switch to direct
measuring mode. A snail icon
will be continuously displayed whenever
the thermometer is functioning in direct measuring mode. A “long beep” is
sounded when measurement is complete and the final temperature is
displayed.
4.8.6 Eject the used probe cover into a bio-waste container by pushing the top
button on the probe.
4.8.7 After the measurement returning the probe to the probe insert, the tempera-
ture is stored for recall.
After a new measuring erases last temperature memory.
4.7.8 For axillary temperatures measuring, pa-
tient has to raise the arm. Then place the probe
tip gently in the axilla. Press gently to assure a
good contact of the patients skin.
4.7.9 The patient must lower the arm and press
firmly against his body as long as the measure-
ment lasts. The probe must be held as shown in
the picture.

rement is complete and the final temperature is

tected or the temperature does not fast stabilize,
the thermometer will automatically switch to di-

tinuously displayed whenever the thermometer is
functioning in direct measuring mode. A “long
