F. Test of seam strength of floor (FS)
A floor seam test is to be carried out on each liferaft at yearly intervals after the tenth
year of the liferafts life, unless earlier servicing is deemed necessary as a result of
visual inspection.
1. To facilitate the test, a proper test frame as shown is recommended,
(FIGURE 1).
2. Perform the floor seam test as follows:
• Make sure the liferaft is inflated to working pressure.
• Put the inflated liferaft on top of the floor seam test frame.
• A person of at least 75 Kg (165 lb) weight must walk around the perimeter
of the floor for the entire circumference, close as possible to the buoyancy.
3. Examine the floor seam around the underside of the lower buoyancy. If the
floor has detached from the buoyancy at any point, repair within the limits of
Chapter 6.
G. Inspection of the canopy arch
After deflating the gas in upper tube and canopy arch, check if there is any defects
on the connection places between the root of canopy arch and the upper tube. If
there is any shifting or slippage.
1. After the upper buoyancy tube has been deflated completely, the arch tube
transfer valve can be tested.
2. After 30 minutes the arch tube should maintain its full shape. Transfer valve
which do not hold air must be replaced.
3. If the arch tube does not maintain its full shape, look for leaks and porous
fabric. If possible, repair the liferaft within the limits given, refer to Chapter 6.
