Operating Instructions
1.0 Introduction
Restek’s portable Leak Detector is specifically designed for use with gas chromatography (GC) systems. It detects minute leaks of any gas
with a thermal conductivity different from air. The reference gas inlet (Figure 1) draws in ambient air for comparison to air drawn into the
sample probe. A leak is indicated by both an LED light display and an audible alarm.
Restek’s Leak Detector is manufactured by Restek so you are assured of the same Restek quality and service you have come to recognize
with the Restek name.
Should you require assistance at anytime regarding our Leak Detector, please contact Restek Customer Service at 1-800-356-1688 or
814-353-1300, ext. 3.
2.0 Battery Charging
The Leak Detector should be fully charged prior to use. Only use the wall charge unit provided. When the unit’s charge is low, the GREEN LED
located between the red and amber LEDs will begin to flash. If unit is off, the GREEN LED will flash when the power button is depressed.
Define Charging Modes:
Trickle Charge
—This mode is active when the batteries have discharged below a predetermined threshold. The Trickle Charge gives the
batteries a very slow charging pulse. This restores the batteries at a very slow rate until the batteries are above the threshold. Then the unit
goes into Fast Charge Mode. Trickle Charge Mode can take several hours to complete, usually over night. The Battery Charging light
FLASHES once a second during the Trickle Charge phase.
Fast Charge Mode
—This mode is active after the Trickle Charge mode, or if the instrument is
plugged into the charger and the battery voltage is above the predetermined threshold. During
this mode the batteries are being charged at a high current rate. The Battery Charging light is on
STEADY during the Fast Charge phase.

NOTE:
For best battery performance, Restek recommends plugging the unit into the wall charger when not in use.
NOTE:
Replacement of the rechargeable cells in this unit is performed at the factory. There are no serviceable parts in this unit.
Opening the case or tampering with the internal parts will void the factory warranty.
