Appendix C —
Tape Handling Precautions
87
The tape recorders used in the MCDS have
unshielded record heads which may be subject to noise
pick up from magnetic interference.
M agnetic fields can be caused by electrical
equipment such as CRT displays, motors, solenoids
and other industrial equipment. This interference will
show up as PARITY BAD errors during tape read. If
these errors occur, make sure the tape recorder is as far
away from noise sources, especially CRT’s, as possible.
Metal-enclosed CRT’s such as RCA model TC1110
are suggested. Under extreme conditions, it may be
necessary to shield the recorders.
Pick-up from noisy power lines may also cause
PARITY BAD errors during tape read. Runningthe
tape recorders on batteries or with a 6-volt DC power
supply to the DC input on the recorder should help.
