LUBRICATION

Read the safety instructions

Before starting the engine for the first time lubricate all
points . For recommended lubricants see page 14.

Check level of oil in sump.
Remove dipstick (A Fig.22) and check that the oil is
up to the correct level indicated. If necessary top up
with fresh oil through the filler (A Fig.23) on top of the
rocker box.
NOTE: Ensure the machine is on level ground when
checking the oil level.

Change engine oil.
(a)

After first warming up the engine remove the
drain plug (A Fig.24) and drain all the oil from
the crankcase sump.

(b)

Clean plug and replace.

(c)

Remove the filler cap (A Fig.23) and refill with
fresh oil up to the maximum level on the
dipstick (A Fig.22).Capacity 3.2 litres
(5.6 Imp.pints) (6.7 US pints)

Replace filler cap securely.

Change oil filter cartridge
(a)

Remove cartridge (A Fig.25) from engine by
unscrewing and discard.

(b)

Clean area on crankcase.

(c)

Apply a thin film of oil to the gasket and screw in
the new cartridge by hand, securely.

(d)

After replacing the new cartridge the engine oil
level will drop, run the engine for a short period
and after ensuring that no leaks appear, top up
with fresh oil to the level indicated on the
dipstick.
