Periodicallycheckthelocomotivewheelsandpickupsfordirt
andbuildup,whichcancausepoorelectricalcontactandtraction
andprematurelywearouttheneoprenetractiontires. Wheelsand
tirescanbecleanedusingdenatured(notrubbing)alcoholapplied
withacottonswab.
Tocleanthetrack,useRailKingTrackCleaningFluidandacleanragordenatured(not
rubbing)alcohol. Unplugthetransformerandwipetherailsofthetrack,turningtherag
frequentlytoensurethatyouareusingcleanclothontherails. Becausethe
manufacturingprocessleavesacoatingonRealTraxcenterrail,youshouldcleantherails
afterthefirst30minutesofuse(youmaynoticeanelectricalsmellduringinitialuseas
thecoatingwearsoff;thisisnormal). Thereafter,keepaneyeonthetrackandcleanit
whenitgetsdirtytoensuregoodelectricalcontactandtolengthenthelifeofthetires.
Traction TireReplacement Instructions
Yourlocomotiveisequippedwithtwoneoprenerubbertractiontiresontherearsetof
flangeddrivers. Whilethesetiresareextremelydurable,youmayneedtoreplacethemat
somepoint.

Oncethemotormountscrewhasbeenremoved,pullthe
motorawayfromthetruckblockandlightlycoatthemotor
wormgearandbronzedrivegear(inthetruckblock)with
grease.
Reassemblethetruckandmotor,beingcarefulnottopinch
thepickupandgroundwiresbetweenthetruckblockand
motormount.
Repeattheprocedureifenginehasmorethanonemotor.
Reassemblethechassisandbody,beingcarefulthatthe
wiresarenotcaughtbetweenthebodyandchassis,as
thiscanleadtoashortthatmaydamagetheelectronics
beyondrepair.

drivegearswithgreaseoccasionally.

Removetwoscrewsfrombelowtruckside.
Removethetrucksidesfromthetruckblock.
Makesuretheoldtirehasbeencompletely
removedfromthegrooveinthedrivewheel,
usingarazorbladeorsmallflatheadscrewdriver
topryawayanyremains.
Cleanthegrooveusingacottonswaband
denaturedalcohol.
