OPERATING YOUR BOAT
3 . 1 . WHEN ARRIVING AT YOUR BOAT
When you arrive at your boat to take a trip, the first thing you
should do is go below and turn on the 12V D.C. main battery
switches (under the steps) and the necessary A.C. and D.C.
breakers on the main distribution panel (on the aft dinette
bulkhead). This will allow you to operate any equipment you
might need. While at the D.C. main panel, check the condition
of your batteries with the test switch and the D.C. voltmeter. If
the battery(s) reads below 10 volts, investigate the D.C. system
for the cause.
The second thing that you should do is check the bilge areas of
your boat, forward, aft, and in the engine room for unexpected
water or debris. While doing this, its a good time to check and
open any seacocks for equipment that may have been shut off
when you last left your boat. While in the engine room, you
should check the engine oil, engine coolant, transmission oil,
and generator oil and coolant, if one is installed. Also, smell for
any gas fumes or other unusual smells and investigate if detected.
While at the helm area, check to see that all equipment is
functioning by testing each one with its switch.
