7.4 Bilge Drainage
There are two bilge pumps located in the stern. One
bilge pump is activated manually by a switch in the
helm station. The other pump is activated automati-
cally by a float switch located next to the pump in the
bilge.
The automatic float switch and pump remains activat-
ed when the battery switches are in the “OFF” position
and the batteries are connected. The pump will start
automatically when there is sufficient water in the
bilge to activate the float switch. The pump will shut
off when the water level is lowered enough to allow
the float switch to drop to the “OFF” position. It is
important to test the float switch frequently to ensure
that the pump and switch are operating properly. The
switch and pump can be tested by turning the knob on
the side of the float switch to raise the float to the “ON”
position. When the float is raised, the bilge pump
should activate. If the pump does not activate, there
is a problem with the pump or the switch that should
be corrected immediately.
All bilge pumps pump water out of thru hulls located above the waterline in the hull.

When the boat is out of the water the bilge can be drained by a thru hull drain located in the
transom near the bottom of the hull. The plug should be removed whenever the boat is hauled
out of the water and installed just prior to launching. It is important to check the drain plug
regularly to make sure it is tight.
A LOOSE DRAIN PLUG WILL ALLOW SEA WATER TO ENTER THE BILGE AND
COULD CAUSE THE BOAT TO SINK. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CHECK THE
DRAIN PLUG FREQUENTLY TO ENSURE IT IS PROPERLY TIGHTENED.
Important:
Any oil spilled in the bilge must be thoroughly removed and properly
disposed of before operating the bilge pump. The discharge of oil from the
bilge is illegal and subject to a fine.
