traveling along an unexpected path, creating an electric
shock or fire hazard.
3. If this is not possible, connect the ground clamp to metal
attached to the workpiece, but is not electrically
insulated from it. The metal must be of equal or greater
thickness than the workpiece when using this alternate
attachment point.
SELECTING THE CURRENT
Select the correct amperage required for the task and
determine if you require a 115 or 230V power supply.
The amperage dial (D) has two guides for cutting. The red
guide is for 115V/20A cutting tasks
(Fig. 2-1). The white guide (shaded
for clarity) is for 230V/30A cutting
tasks (Fig. 2-2).
When using a 115V power supply, do
not turn the amperage dial past the
red guide limit as this may create an
overheating/overload situation.
MANUAL CUTTING
1. Hold the torch tip near the edge of the workpiece without
touching. Ensure the standoff guide is in place.
2. Press the torch trigger to ignite the plasma pilot arc. The arc
will form when the torch is close enough to the workpiece.
3. The plasma will cut through the metal. Sparks and debris
will spray upwards from the cut until the plasma arc burns
through the metal. The sparks and debris will then spray
downwards from the cut.
4. Move the torch along the metal at a constant speed to cut.
Keep the torch at a 90° angle. Slow the cutting speed to
allow the torch to cut through the metal if the sparks start to
spray upward. Too slow will affect the quality of the cut or
cause the arc to break up.
