Playing your recordings on
other DVD players
Most r egula r DVD p laye r s can p lay finalized
discs r eco r ded in DVD-R/-RW (Video mode)
and DVD+R discs. A numbe r of p laye r s
(including many Pionee r models) can also
p lay DVD-RW discs r eco r ded in VR mode,
finalized o r not. Most p laye r s will not p lay VR
mode DVD-R discs, although some
DVD-ROM d
r ives and DVD r eco r de r s may be
able to (finalization might be necessa r y).
DVD-RAM discs can only be p layed on
DVD-RAM com p atible p laye r s. Check the
manual that came with the p laye r to check
what kinds of discs it will p lay.
When you finalize a DVD-R/-RW (Video
mode) o
r DVD+R disc, a title menu is
c r eated f r om which you can select titles
when you p lay the disc. The r e a r e a numbe r
of diffe r ent styles of title menu to choose
f r om to suit the content of the disc.
All the title menus a r e navigated in the usual
way, pr essing
MENU o r TOP MENU to
dis p lay the menu, then using the
///
followed by ENTER to select titles and sta r t
p layback.
Finalizing a disc
Finalizing ‘fixes’ the r eco r dings on the disc
so that it can be p layed on a r egula r DVD
p laye r o r com p ute r equi pp ed with a suitable
DVD-ROM d r ive.

Note that the disc name will a pp ea r in the
title menu afte r you finalize a disc. Make su r e
the disc name is as you want it befo r e you
finalize the disc as it can’t be changed
afte
r wa r ds. If you want to r ename the disc,

DVD+RW discs don’t gene r ally need
finalizing. Howeve r , if you want a title menu
to a pp ea r when you p lay the disc, then you
will need to finalize. When using a
DVD+RW, you can still
r eco r d and edit even
afte r finalizing, although the title menu will
disa pp ea r if you do so. Finalize the disc
again to gene r ate a new title menu.
Important
• Once you’ve finalized a DVD-R/-RW
(Video mode) o r DVD+R disc, you can’t
edit o r r eco r d anything else on that disc.
Howeve r , the finalization on a DVD-RW
disc maybe ‘undone’; see
Undo Finalize
on p age 131 fo r how to do this.
• A VR mode DVD-R/-RW (excluding
DVD-R DL) disc can still be r eco r ded and

1 If the TV line system of the disc is diffe r ent to the cu rr ent setting of the r eco r de r , you will not be able to finalize
