Ethernet wiring and hardware checks
It is assumed at this stage that the installed cable has been proved correct from point to
point.
1.
Check for AC voltages
Using a calibrated standard meter, each cable, including the shield, should be checked
with reference to building ground/earth for any AC voltages. Any AC voltages present
must be eliminated.
2.
Check for DC voltages
Using a calibrated standard meter, each cable, including the shield, should be checked
with reference to building ground/earth for any DC voltages. Any DC voltages present
must be eliminated.
3.
Check for short circuit to ground/earth
Using a calibrated standard meter and with reference to building ground/earth, each
cable, including the shield, should be checked for short circuits. Any short circuits must
be removed.
4.
Check for short circuits between wires and shield
A check should be made for any short circuits between each wire and screen to ensure
that no short circuits exist. Any short circuits must be removed.
When the above checks are completed and correct, the network terminals can be
connected.
5.
Network addressing
Network addressing is located within nanoNavigator in the configuration section. There
the network IP Address can be set using either BootP, DHCP or a static IP Address.
–
When using BootP IP Addressing, use the IPAssign program available from
Phoenix Contact as a free BootP server IP assignment tool. The IP address will be
assigned after a download is performed to the Nanoline and IPAssign is run.
–
When using DHCP IP Addressing, the Ethernet module will get its IP assigned from
the network server after a download to the Nanoline.
–
When using a static IP Address, be sure to enter the Subnet Mask as well. IP
Address will be assigned after a download to the Nanoline.
Ethernet data transmission
This stage is to prove communication on transmission of remote data. Use ModScan32
software to check the network inputs, outputs and holding register communication. Refer to
“Modbus communication” on page 41 for additional information.
