RS-485
RS-485 communication with the base unit requires the NLC-MOD-RS485 option module
(Order No. 2701182) installed in Slot 1 and NLC-RS485-CBL-5M (Order No. 2701073). For
installation procedures, refer to “Option modules” on page 14. The cable connects between
the RJ11 connector on the option module and an RS-485 device.
3.1.3
USB
USB communication with the base unit requires the NLC-MOD-USB option module (Order
No. 2701195) installed in Slot 1 and NLC-PC/USB-CBL 1M (Order No. 2701247). For
installation procedures, refer to “Option modules” on page 14. The cable connects between
the USB Type B connector on the option module and a USB Type A port on a PC.
Before communication can be established, configure the port to communicate with the
Nanoline.

Open the “Start… Control Panel… System” dialog box, click the “Hardware” tab, then
click the “Device Manager” button.

Click the + icon next to Ports to expand the selections.

Double-click the desired port (COM1) to open the “Communications Port” dialog box.

Click the “Port Settings” tab. Set the various fields as follows:

3.1.4
Memory Module
The NLC-MOD-MEM 032K option module (Order No. 2701166) allows a project to be
transferred from one device to another without a direct connection. Possible transfers are:
–
download a project from nanoNavigator to a memory module.
–
upload a project from a memory module to nanoNavigator.
–
download a project from a memory module to a Nanoline controller.
–
upload a project from a Nanoline controller to a memory module.
Most PCs are not equipped with an RS485 connector. To communicate with a PC for
configuring purposes (or any other RS-232 device) an RS-232 to RS-485 converter can
be used. Refer to 3.1.1 “RS-232” for instructions on establishing an RS-232 connection.
Communication to a serial device through a USB port requires a special driver. This driver
is included with the nanoNavigator configuration software.
