i) Keep unauthorized persons at a safe distance from the work area. The one who enters the work area must
wear protective equipment. Fragments of the workpiece or broken accessories can fly away and cause
damage beyond the immediate area of use.
j) Hold the power tool only in insulated gripping surfaces when performing an application where the cutting
tool may come in contact with hidden wires or it’s own cord. Cutting accessories that come into contact
with an electric cord can make exposed metal parts of the power tool electric and can give the user an
electric shock.
k) Place the power cord out of reach of any rotating accessories. If you lose control, the cord may be cut or
torn and your hand or arm may be pulled into the rotating accessory.
l) Do not put the tool away until it has stopped completely. The rotating accessory can grab the surface and
tear the tool out of your hand.
m) Never leave the tool running while carrying it by your side. In case of accidental contact with the rotating
accessory, clothes can get caught and pull the accessory towards your body.
n) Clean the tool’s air vents regularly. The engine fan draws dust into the housing and excessive accumulation
of powdered metal can cause electrical hazards.
o) Do not use the tool near flammable materials. Sparks can ignite these materials.
p) Do not use accessories that require liquid coolant. Use of water or other liquid coolant may result in electric
shocks.
OTHER SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL APPLICATIONS
Reversal and related warnings
Backlash is a sudden reaction to a pinching or jammed rotating wheel, a brush or any other accessory. Pin
-
ching or hanging causes a quick stop of the rotating accessory, which in turn forces the power tool out of
control in the opposite direction.
For example, if a sanding wheel is stuck or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the wheel entering the
clamping point may dig into the surface of the material, causing jumps or projection of the sanding wheel.
The wheel can jump towards the user and even break under these conditions. Backlash is a result of improper
use of the tool and/or the application or the conditions are incorrect and can be avoided by taking appropriate
precautions such as listed below.
a) Hold the tool and position your body and arm so that you can withstand backlash forces. Always use the
auxiliary handle, where applicable. For maximum control of return or rotation response at start-up. The user
can control the reaction moment or the forces, if the precautions are taken.
b) Never place your hand near the rotating accessory. The accessory can bounce against your hand.
c) Do not place yourself in the area where the power tool is mowing if it should strike back. The rebound can
push the tool in the opposite direction.
d) Be careful when working with corners, sharp edges, etc. Avoid twists and snaps in the accessory. Corners,
edges or sharp turns tend to hang the rotating accessory and cause loss of control or backlash.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR SANDING
Set specific safety guards for sanding
a) Do not use sandpaper that is too large for the sanding wheel. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations
when choosing sandpaper. Heavier paper that extends beyond the sanding pad carries a risk of tearing that
can cause a crash, tear of the disc or bounce back.
