If the protocols that are used fall into one of the encapsulation types defined above, the packet will be
transferred to the appropriate encapsulation on the other side of the link.
– When a transparent connection is created, the system will transfer the data between the two end points
without the knowledge of the encapsulation type. This is required for transfer of data that does not fall
into one of the above listed encapsulation types.
DEMapping
Defines how the DE bit (discard eligibility) in the framerelay header will be translated into the ATM CLPI bit
(Cell Loss Priority Indication) in the ATM header.
Options:
• Zero—the CLPI and DE will always be set to 0.
• One±—the CLPI and DE will always be set to 1.
• Convert—the DE bit from the framerelay header will be replaced by the CLPI bit in the ATM header in the
ATM to FR direction. The CLPI bit from the ATM header will be replaced by the DE bit in the framerelay
header in the FR to ATM direction.
Function: This setting allows the user to determine how the DE and CLPI bits will be transferred across the
network.
FECNMapping
Defines how the FECN bit (forward explicit congestion notification) in the framerelay header will be trans-
lated into the ATM EFCI bit (explicit forward congestion indication) in the ATM header.
Options:
• Zero—the FECN and EFCI will always be set to 0.
• One—the FECN and EFCI will always be set to 1.
