SNMPv3.
8.4.1
Framework and Applications.
Based on current requirements for the BAC project, this is the level of support desired:
Command Generators
: It is not required that the DSLAM products generate SNMP
messages.
Command Responders
: This is the primary function of our DSLAM management entity.
Thus, this will be implemented as indicated in RFC 3413_std62.
Notification Originators
: Initiating notifications is a primary function of the DSLAM
management entities. Both unconfirmed and confirmed (INFORM) notications will be
suppored.
Notification Receivers
: It is not required that our DSLAM products be able to receive and
process notifications from other Entities, thus this application will not be implemented.
Proxy Forwarders
: It is not required that the DSLAM act as a proxy since we will have
only one SNMP engine running.
8.4.2
SNMP Framework MIB (RFC 3411)
In addition to defining new textual conventions, this MIB defines the following scalar
objects that will be supported:
snmpEngineID:
A unique identifier will be automatically generated for each device running the SNMP
engine. This ID is a 12 byte number which is based on a proposed scheme described in
RFC 3411 that uses the MAC address of the device to construct a unique engineID. For
this Paradyne product, it will use the private enterprise number assigned to Paradyne by
the IANA (1795 or 0x733) and the MAC address of the device running the agent (e.g, SCP
card) to generate a unique identifier for the Engine.
For example, using the MAC address of my SCP card which is ’00-E0-39-C1-CD-16’ will
result in the following snmpEngineID:
80 00 07 03 03 00 00 E0 39 C1 CD 16
See RFC 3411 for details on how this is formatted. The following objects are supported for
RFC3411
