About the status indicator when charging the
battery pack
When the status indicator is flashing fast or slow, it may indicate one of
the following conditions.
Flashing at about 4-second intervals (2 seconds on, 2 seconds off):

This may indicate that the battery has been fully discharged, or when the
battery temperature is high or low. The battery can be charged, but in
some cases it may take several hours to fully charge it.

During normal charging, the status indicator flashes at about 2-second
intervals. However, even in this case, depending on the ambient
conditions, the status indicator may flash at 4-second intervals until the
battery is fully charged.
Flashing at about 0.5-second intervals (0.25 seconds on, 0.25 seconds
off): faster

The battery pack cannot be charged. Remove the battery pack from the
camera once and reinsert it, then begin charging it again.

Check to see that there is no dust, grime or foreign matter adhering to the
camera or battery, and make sure that the battery pack is correctly
inserted. Turn off the camera before cleaning it of dust, grime or other
foreign matter.

The battery pack or the ambient temperature is very high or very low. Try
charging the battery pack again after it has returned to a suitable
temperature. If the battery pack still cannot be charged, it is possible that
the camera, the battery pack or the AC adaptor may be defective.

If the status indicator turns off even though charging is not completed, it is
possible that the camera, the battery pack or the AC adaptor may be
defective.
