4.2.4 Internet Protocol
IP (Internet Protocol) is defined as the 3
rd
layer in the OSI reference model and controls packet
transmission and reception. Typical roles are as follows:
IP address identification
Fragmentation (decomposition) of IP datagram and combining
Selection of the route by IP address

Version Version4 as IPv4, version6 as IPv6
Internet Header Length Length of IP header field
Type of Service Quality of service required by IP datagram
D - Delay low
T - High throughput
R - High reliability
ID Communication frame signal for identifying the IP datagram from
the upper layer
Flags Information on fragmentation
Time to Live Survival time, subtract one by one every time you go through the
router, discard it when it gets to zero
Protocol Upper layer protocol identification signal, e.g. TCP (06h), UDP
(11h)
Header Checksum Checksum
Source Address Source IP Address
Destination Address Destination IP Address
Option Action of request to router
Padding When using option etc. adjustment field to make the total of option
and padding equal to 32 bits
