Replace Front Slot Cards
You do not have to power off the chassis to install or remove NPCs.
For information on slot status details, see Table 15 on page 61 and for information on common CLI
commands to view slot information, see Table 16 on page 62.
The following topics describe the replacement procedures in a single chassis or an HA configuration:

Replace a Network Processing Card in a Single Chassis
This topic describes the steps required to replace a Network Processing Card (NPC) in a single PA-7050
firewall.
To replace an NPC:
1.
First verify the status of the NPC that is having a problem. You can do this from the web interface
or from the CLI. In the web interface, navigate to
Network > Interfaces
and each NPC slot will
show status as shown in Figure 32.
Figure 32. Network Processing Card (NPC) Status
If the NPC failed due to a hardware problem, the status will show
Failure
. The NPC may also have
a configuration problem. In this situation, you can try to force a commit by running
commit
force
. Table 15 on page 61 describes the possible states of an NPC.
2.
Attach an ESD strap to your wrist and plug it into one of the ESD ports located on the front of the
chassis. The ESD ports are located along the bottom row of the chassis and you will see three ports,
any of which can be used. For details on the ESD port location, see “Front Panel (AC)” on page 6.
3.
Make note of the cable connections and then loosen the screws that secure the NPC to the chassis
using a Phillips-head screwdriver.
4.
Remove the NPC by sliding the black lever release upward on both sides to unlock the release
levers and then wait for the power LED to go off. After the power LED is off, pull the release lever
toward you to pull the card out of the chassis as shown in Figure 33.
