Replace Front Slot Cards
5.
Remove the new SMC card from the anti-static bag and slide it into slot 4 ensuring that the handles
are in the open position. When the card is about 1/4” from being fully inserted, adjust the levers to
align with the chassis and then close the levers to seat the card in place.
6.
Tighten the screws on each side of the SMC with a Phillips-head screw driver to secure it to the
chassis.
7.
Reconnect the cables and power cords and power on the chassis.
Replace a Log Processing Card (LPC)
The Log Processing Card (LPC) is required for the chassis to operate. If the LPC fails, the chassis will
reboot and attempts to recover the LPC. If the LPC continues to fail and the chassis restarts more than
three times in 30 minutes, it will enter maintenance mode at which time it should be powered off until
the LPC can be replaced.
The LPC also contains the disk drives used to store logs, so if the LPC fails, you will need to remove the
AMC/Disk drives and then re-install them in the new LPC. It is important that the AMC/Disk drives are
installed in the same order in which they were removed to maintain the RAID configuration.
To replace the LPC:
1.
Ensure that the chassis is powered off and that no power cords are connected.
2.
Attach an ESD strap to your wrist and plug it into one of the ESD ports located on the front of the
chassis. The ESD ports are located along the bottom row of the chassis and you will see three ports,
any of which can be used. For details on the ESD port location, see “Front Panel (AC)” on page 6
or “Front Panel (AC)” on page 6.
3.
Remove the four AMC/Disk drive from the front of the LPC installed in slot 8 (note the location of
each) and temporarily store them in anti-static bags or on an anti-static mat. The AMC/Disk drive
will be re-installed after the LPC is replaced. For information on removing the drives, see “Replace
an AMC/Disk Drive” on page 49.
4.
Loosen the thumb screws on each side of the LPC that are used to secure the card to the chassis.
Use a Phillips-head screwdriver if necessary.
5.
Remove the LPC by pulling the inner release lever to unlock the outer release lever and then use
Note: The session distribution policy configuration is stored on the SMC. If this
option has been changed from the default setting, you will need to re-configure the
distribution policy after installing the new SMC. For information on the
set
session distribution-policy
command, refer to the Palo Alto Networks
PAN-OS Command Line Reference Guide 6.0 or later.
Note: The LPC is required to run the chassis. If two chassis are in high
availability (HA) mode, and the LPC is removed or fails, a failover will occur.
CAUTION: It is important that the AMC/Disk drives are installed in the same
order in which they were removed to maintain the RAID configuration.
