Wireless Security
When you select a wireless security
Type
, as described at the end of the previous section, the
configuration options for that mode appear (See the figure below). The following sections describe the
available options, depending on the type of security you have chosen.
WEP
In the SSID Profile page, under
Wireless Security
, choose a wireless security protocol
Type
from
the drop-down list. For example, if your wireless network uses WEP encryption, choose
WEP
from the
drop-down list. (WEP is an acronym for Wired Equivalent Privacy, a protocol that offers the same level of
security for wireless networks as for wired networks.)
Auth Type:
In the drop-down list, choose an authentication method. The options are
Open
System
or
Shared Key
.
o
If you choose
Open System
, any client will be able to authenticate, as long as it
conforms to any MAC address filter policies you have set. In an open system,
authentication packets are sent without encryption.
o
If you choose
Shared Key
, the W6x sends a challenge text string (unencrypted) to
devices that try to communicate with the access point. The device that requests
authentication encrypts the challenge text and returns it to the access point. If the
challenge text is correctly encrypted, the access point authenticates the requesting
device.
