Diagnostic Tools
There are two basic diagnostic tools available for users – Ping and Traceroute.
Ping
– This is a utility to test the reachability of target IP host and measures the
round-trip time from the source (in this case the modem) to the destination and back
to the source.
To use Ping, select “Ping” at the Diagnostic Type dropdown menu. Enter an IP or
URL that you select e.g. 8.8.8.8 or
www.google.com
at the IPAddress/Domain field.
Other settings can remain unchanged. Press “Start” button. Ping results will appear
at the bottom of the page.
Traceroute
– This is a utility used to track the pathway taken by a packet on an IP
network from source to destination. Traceroute also records the time taken for each
hop the packet makes during its route to the destination.
To use Traceroute, select “Traceroute” at the Diagnostic Type dropdown menu.
Enter an IP or URL that you select e.g. 8.8.8.8 or
www.google.com
at the
