Framing and Finishing

Note:  This fireplace should be in place and venting installed before framing in or building an 

enclosure around the unit.

This fireplace must be framed in as prescribed in the following pages or totally enclosed with non-

combustible material, such as facing brick.

A steel header supplied with the fireplace must be installed so that the bottom of the header is level 

with the top standoffs (Figure 31). The header must be positioned 40 5/8" above the floor the fireplace 

is positioned on.

The sides, back and top (above the steel header) of the fireplace enclosure can be framed in using 

conventional lumber. The center two studs above the steel header must be 14 1/2" apart and centered 

on the steel header to ensure proper clearance to vent pipe and vent shield. Consult local building codes 

for specific requirements.

Note: Increase the inside framing 

dimensions accordingly if sheeting 

in the enclosure with drywall
