MODEL C-195-OWI
TORQUE CONVERTER
INSTALLATION
PREPARATION OF ENGINE
Use a jack or lever and lift the engine flywheel to the limit allowed by the rear main bearing.
Measure the amount of this movement by using an indicator. Jack or bump the engine
crankshaft to its limiting front and rear positions and measure the amount of this movement by
using an indicator. If either of these indicator readings exceeds the engine manufacturer’s
specifications, consult an engine representative.
All surfaces which have been coated with a preservative must be thoroughly cleaned with a
suitable solvent. (ANY PAINT ON THE FLYWHEEL OR INSIDE THE FLYWHEEL
HOUSING MUST BE REMOVED.)
MOUNTING TORQUE CONVERTER TO ENGINE
1.
Lightly make up torque converter drive ring to engine flywheel and torque converter
housing to engine flywheel housing.
2.
Insert enough shims under torque converter support feet to support some load. Back off
torque converter slightly to allow checking of a gap between torque converter housing
and flywheel housing flange with a feeler gauge.
3.
Add or subtract shims under support feet to equalize gap at top and bottom of the flange
with support feet securely bolted. This step is important to insure proper weight
distribution between flywheel housing and support feet. Jack screw holes are provided in
the support feet to aid in this adjustment.
4.
Loosen bolts on support feet and tighten bolts holding torque converter to flywheel
housing.
5.
Tighten bolts holding splined drive ring to the flywheel.
