1 Application
English
The 8E33=6 and 8E34=6 Otto Bock System Electric Greifers are to be used
solely
for the fitting
of upper limb prostheses.
Electric Greifers offer greater function and efficiency to users of the Myobock® System. These
Greifers are designed to handle a variety of specialized tasks which are unsuitable with System
Electric Hands. They offer the following advantages:
Quick and precise gripping
i.e. used with precision mechanics, optics, electronics
Handling of heavy objects
i.e. in industry or farming
Special gripping functions
by using various fingertips
For all of these situations, the Greifer has the ideal features:
- Universal adjustment of the grip surface by rotating the fingertips
- Passive wrist joint allowing flexion, pronation and supination which permits functional operation
in all three planes.
2 Safety Tips
Before interrupting or establishing any electrical connections (e.g. when removing the prosthesis
from the four-channel processor II) it is absolutely necessary to remove the battery from the bat-
tery receptacle and thus to separate the system from the power supply.
If the battery becomes fully discharged for any reason, you can release the Greifer using the
safety release lever. The Greifer can be opened by forcefully prying the fingers apart.
If the System Electric Greifer will not be used for an extended period of time, it should be left in
the open position to protect the mechanics.
Do not allow foreign particles or liquids to get into the Greifer mechanism. The Greifer should not
be subjected to intense smoke, dust, mechanical vibrations or shocks.
Due to strong electromagnetic radiation the System Electric Greifer might open or close un-
expectedly when near high-tension power lines, transmitters, or transformers, or when going
through safety gates. Setting the electrode gains as low as possible will minimize this risk of
inadvertent operation.
Attention:
Driving Motor Vehicles
An upper limb amputee’s ability to drive a motor vehicle is determined on a case-by-case
basis. Factors include the type of fitting (amputation level, unilateral or bilateral, residual limb
conditions, design of the prosthesis) and the amputee’s abilities. For maximum safety and con-
venience, Otto Bock recommends that a specialist evaluate the need to adapt the vehicle with
specialized equipment. For maximum safety, Otto Bock recommends always operating motor
vehicles with the System Electric Greifer switched OFF. Driving with the System Electric Greifer
switched ON may present a risk if the Greifer inadvertently opens due to unintentional muscle
contraction or other causes.
