PILOT'S OPERATING
REVISION NO. 05
DATE OF ISSUE: MAY 02,
8.17. SOFT FIELD LANDING
Landing on fields that are rough or have soft surfaces, such as snow, sand, mud, or tall grass, require
unique procedures. When landing on such surfaces, the objective is to touch down as smooth as possible
and at the slowest possible landing speed.
A pilot must control the airplane in a manner that the wings support the weight of the airplane as long as
practical to minimize drag and stresses imposed on the landing gear by the rough or soft surface.
•
Airspeed – 54 KIAS (100 IAS)
•
Wing Flaps – 30° or 40° (according to the condition of the landing surface)
•
Touchdown – MAIN WHEELS FIRST
•
Nose wheel – KEEP ELEVATED; as aircraft slows to safe taxi speed, then softly set onto landing surface.
•
Brakes – MINIMUM REQUIRED

•
Cover the pitot tube with the protective sleeve
•
Put protective covers on propeller blades
8.21. FLYING IN RAIN, SNOW
There are no special requirements during flying in rain or snow. Aircraft handling and performance does not
change.
After landing, always check for water in the pitot/static system and empty the water trap if there is water
present. The water trap is situated behind the pitot tube.
NORMAL PROCEDURES

CAUTION!
ALL LANDING SPEEDS WITH 15 ° / 30 ° / 40 ° FLAPS MUST BE INCREASED BY 5.4 KNOTS
(10 KM/H) IN TURBULENT WEATHER.
