8.12. LANDING
•

At approx. 30-50 ft reduce the engine power to idle
•
At approx. 15 ft height above runway, start pulling the yoke to reduce descent rate; at approx. 1-2 ft
above runway, let the plane loose speed gradually, until the main wheels touch down.
•
Always touch down on main landing gear wheels first.
•
Pull up yoke gradually to maintain nose gear above ground for as long as possible.
•
When nose gear finally touches down, apply brakes as necessary.
•
If runway is short or with obstacles on the approach, extend the flaps to 40°. With the flaps in this
position, descend rate increases markedly. Maintain speed 50 knots (90 km/h).
•
Crosswind approaches can best be accomplished by using the wing down top rudder method
touching first on the down wing side main wheel, followed by the other main wheel, and finally
lowering the nose wheel all the while keeping the yoke into the wind.
8.13. BALKED LANDING (GO-AROUND)
