W hen using a swivelling holder , keep in mind that the distance
between antenna and socket gets smaller as the inclinationof the
sensor increases . A dditional false re fl ections may be generated
which can in fl uence the measuring result at close range .
I f the medium has good re fl ective properties , VEGAPULS 68 can
also be mounted on a longer socket piece . R ecommended val -
ues for socket heights are speci fi ed in the operating instructions
manual of the sensor .
M ounting in a multiple chamber silo
T he silo walls of multiple chamber silos are often made of pro fi le
walls , such as e . g . pro fi le sheeting , to ensure the required stabil -
ity . I f the radar sensor is mounted very close to a heavily struc -
tured vessel wall , considerable false re fl ections can be gener -
ated . H ence the sensor should be mounted at a large distance
from the separating wall . T he optimal mounting position is the
outer wall of the silo with the sensor directed towards the empty -
ing aperture in the silo center .

V essel installations
S ilo installations such as e . g . ladders , level switches , struts , and
also structured vessel walls , can cause false echoes that get
superimposed on the useful echo . T he mounting location of the
radar sensor should be a place where no installations cross the
microwave signals . M ake sure when planningyour measurement
loop that the radar signals have a " clear view " to the product .
M aterial heaps
L arge material heaps are best measured with several instru -
ments , which can be mounted on e . g . traverse cranes . F or this
type of application it is advantageous to orient the sensor perpen -
dicular to the bulk solid surface .
