4Q: Running Gear
4Q1: Aquadrives
OceanFlyer
is equipped with
“Aquadrives”, a deluxe accessory in the drive
system that greatly reduces noise and vibration
from the main engines while also making the
boat more efficient.
With this drive system, the propeller
shafts enter the hull and go through the normal
shaft seals, then they push a thrust bearing that
is fixed directly to the engine stringers. Next, the
shaft is connected to a universal joint flexible
coupling which then has a short shaft forward to
yet another flexible coupling. This, in turn,
connects to the transmission.
This the engines can have much “softer”, more flexible engine mounts, because as they vibrate
from their power strokes, it can be absorbed by the mounts, yet the propeller shafts will stay aligned.
The Aquadrives require no maintenance.
4Q2: Bow Thruster
OceanFlyer
has been equipped with a bow thruster with
“joystick” control at each helm. This will assist you in getting
extra close to the dock after you have put the boat within a
maximum of three feet or so using the engines...
To operate the thruster:
Turn on thruster by pressing
both
“on” buttons
simultaneously
until the lights stay lit;
Then move the joystick left or right to run the thruster.
The thruster only stays “ON” for about four minutes to protect it from
overuse. After it turns off, you will have to turn it “on” again!
Do not overuse the thruster! Operating it in “jabs” of 10-15 seconds at a time should be
enough...it cannot be run for extended times without having it shut down when its thermal overload
protective relay opens!
If the lights do not illuminate on the joystick when you press both “On” buttons, check the main
switch in the forward stateroom (see illustration).
The port shaft’s forward universal joint can be seen under the green hoses.
The bowthruster has
a main switch
(out=on) in the
forward S/R.
Thruster control.
