OBH Nordica Digital Thermometer
Before use
Before the OBH Nordica digital thermometer is taken into use, please
read this instruction manual thoroughly and keep it for future use.
The thermometer is a highly reliable and accurate measuring instrument.
The ergonomic shape and quick measurement (temperature calculation is
done within 10 seconds) make the thermometer a very user friendly appli-
ance. The thermometer can be used for oral measurement (mouth) or rectal
measurement (rectum). Using the thermometer is completely risk free.
Please note! It is recommended that the user does not eat, drink, smoke,
work out, or bathe up until 20 minutes before measurement.
How to use the thermometer
The thermometer is activated by pressing the ON/OFF button. The ther-
mometer then makes a beeping sound and all display segments flash. All
display symbols are shown for about 2 seconds followed by the latest tem-
perature reading for about 1 second. Subsequently, the display reads 37 C
for about 1 second while the thermometer performs a self-test. The display
backlight will switch off and °C starts flashing, indicating that the thermome-
ter is ready for use. The display reads ‘Lo’ until the thermometer is placed
according to the required measurement.
When measurement is performed the display will show the highest recorded
temperature during the measurement. To start measurement, insert the ther-
mometer into mouth or rectum after the ON/OFF button has been activated.
Mouth (oral measurement)
Place the thermometer in one of the two positions marked with * on the
illustration below. It is essential that the mouth is kept closed during mea-
surement to ensure accurate measurement results. Be careful not to bite
the thermometer.

When the temperature reaches its maximum the thermometer will sound
a warning consisting of 10 long beeps and the display will flash. The re-
sult is obtained in approximately 10 seconds. If the measurement result is
37.8° C or above, the fever alarm will sound 30 short beeps. Note that mouth
measurements are in general approximately 0.5° C lower than rectal mea-
surements. Switch off the thermometer by pressing the ON/OFF button to
ensure a longer battery lifespan. If the thermometer is not switched off by
pressing the ON/OFF button, it will automatically switch off after approxi-
mately 10 minutes.
Clean the thermometer after use as described in the section ‘Cleaning and
maintenance’.
Rectum (rectal measurement)
This is the most reliable measuring method and it is especially suited for
children. Prepare the tip of the probe with a water-based lubricant to facilitate
insertion. The patient should be lying on one side. When children’s tempe-
ratures are measured, the child should be lying on its stomach e.g. with its
legs over the edge of the bed or dressing table. This will make thermometer
insertion safer and smoother.
