5-5 Sterilization
Autoclave sterilization is recommended. Sterilization is required first time you use and after each patient as noted below.
Autoclave Procedure:
1) Scrub dirt and debris from the handpiece, and wipe clean with alcohol-immersed cotton swab or cloth. Do not use a wire rush.
2) Lubricate with PANA SPRAY Plus/PANA SPRAY/NSK automatic handpiece cleaning and lubrication system. Refer to 5-4 Lubrication.
3) Insert into an autoclave pouch. Seal the pouch.
4) Autoclavable up to max. 135°C.
ex.) Autoclave for 20 min. at 121°C, or 15 min. at 132°C.
5) Keep the handpiece in the autoclave pouch to keep it clean until you use it.
*Sterilization at 121°C for more than 15 minutes is recommended by EN13060 or EN ISO17665-1.
Lubrication Oil
S-Max pico M4/S-Max pico B2
1) Remove the handpiece from the hose.
2) Apply 1-2 drops of lubrication oil into the Drive Air Port shown in the Fig. 10.
3) Connect the handpiece to the hose. Operate the handpiece for about 10 seconds.

· Do not attempt to disassemble the handpiece or tamper with the mechanism except NSK recommend on this Operation Manual.
· Do not connect or disconnect the handpiece or bur until the handpiece has completely stopped.
· NSK has not recommended the repair and disassembly of the cartridge without exception. Handpiece may perform abnormally (abnormal noise
or abnormal vibration). Damage, failure or accidents are outside of our guarantee.
· Do not wipe with, or clean or immerse in, high acid water or sterilizing solutions.
· Use eye protectors, mask for safety when operating this handpiece.
· User is responsible for operation, maintenance and safety.
· If the handpiece has not been used for a long period, check for noise, vibration, and overheating before use.
CAUTION
· When operating the Handpiece always consider the safety of the patient.
· Do not exceed maximum bur length.
· Check for vibration, noise and overheating outside the patient's oral cavity before use. If any abnormalities are found, stop using the Handpiece
immediately and contact dealer.
· Should the handpiece function abnormally, cease operation immediately and return the handpiece to dealer for repair.
· Depressing the Push Button while the handpiece is rotating will result in OVERHEATING of the handpiece head. Special caution must be
exercised during use to keep cheek tissue AWAY from the Push Button of the handpiece. Contact with cheek tissue may cause the Push Button
to depress and burn injury to the patient may occur.
· Do not applying excessive power in the direction which bur removes. When the bur drops into patient’s oral cavity, they may drink by mistake
and get injured.
· Do not allow any impact on to the handpiece. Do not drop the handpiece.
3. Connecting/Disconnecting Handpiece
2. Setting of Air & Water Supply Pressure
Measure the supply pressure at the handpiece / hose connection point and set the pressure to the value
specified on the specification table. (Fig. 1)

CAUTION
Do not use air contaminated by dust, moisture and oil.
CAUTION
If the chuck is not regularly cleaned the chuck grip may be weakened and the bur may be accidentally released while in operation.
CAUTION
Use only clean water to maintain the Clean Head System.
CAUTION
· Be sure to hold the handpiece firmly to prevent the handpiece from slipping out of hand by the spray
pressure when lubricating.
· Supply lubricant until it comes out of the handpiece head.(at least 2 seconds)
· Hold the spray can upright.
CAUTION
· Fully depress the Push Button and insert the bur into the chuck until it is secure.
· Do not use carbide bur when the crown is removed. It may cause malfunction.
· Do not apply too much pressure to the bur. Bur may break or bent or difficult to remove. (Be sure to irrigate water. Cutting should be soft
touch.)
WARNING
Do not exceed the optimum pressure specified on the specification table.
5-2 Cleaning (Spray Port)
When Spray Port are clogged, clean the port as follows:
1) Remove the bur from the chuck.
2) Take out the cleaning wire from the back end of the brush holder. Insert the wire straight into the spray
port with caution. Do not forcibly insert the wire into the port. Damaged or disoriented port could cause
the spray diverge or directed away from the bur, and the cooling efficiency deteriorates.
3) After use, clean the cleaning wire. Push into the brush holder with the pointed end of the wire inward.
5-3 Cleaning (Handpiece)
This handpiece can be washed via Thermo Disinfector.
Scrub dirt and debris from the handpiece, and wipe clean with alcohol-immersed cotton swab or cloth. Do not use a wire brush.
* Refer the manual of Thermo-Disinfector for performing it.
5-4 Lubrication
PANA SPRAY Plus /PANA SPRAY
Apply NSK PANA SPRAY Plus/PANA SPRAY/automatic handpiece cleaning and lubrication system every time
after each use and/or before autoclaving.

1) Remove the bur from the handpiece.
2) Insert the Spray Nozzle into the Spray Port nozzle on the can.
3) Insert the Spray Nozzle in rear of the handpiece. Hold the handpiece and spray for approximately 2-3
seconds. Apply lubricant until it expels from the handpiece head for at least 2 seconds. (Fig. 8)

1) Remove the handpiece from the hose.
2) Mount the arrow-head spray nozzle tip into the spray can port. (Fig. 9)
3) Insert the Spray Nozzle into the Drive Air Port of the handpiece. (Fig. 10) Hold the handpiece and spray
for approximately 2-3 seconds. Apply lubricant until it expels from the handpiece head for at least 2
seconds.
5-1 Cleaning (Clean-Head System)
1) Half fill a cup with clean water.
2) Scrub dirt and debris from the handpiece, and wipe clean with alcohol-immersed cotton swab or cloth.
(Fig. 5) Do not use a wire brush.
3) Rotate the handpiece and immerse half of the handpiece head. (Fig. 6)
4) Rotate and stop intermittently the handpiece about 2 to 3 seconds. (About 3 times)
5) By the function of the clean head system, the clean head hole can be washed.
6) Stop the handpiece and wipe it dry. If the dirt could not remove from the hole, remove the cartridge and
clean it by brush.
7) Perform lubrication and sterilization. (5-4 Lubrication and 5-5 Sterilization)
Chuck cleaning
Clean Push Button chuck once a week.
1) Mount the arrow-head spray nozzle tip into the spray can port.
2) Lubricate the chuck directly through the bur insertion hole. (Fig. 11)
3) Lubricate the handpiece by using NSK PANA SPRAY Plus/PANA SPRAY (Fig. 8, 9) or NSK automatic
handpiece cleaning and lubrication system.

When using NSK automatic handpiece cleaning and lubrication system, refer to the system instructions.
Intended to Use
This handpiece is designed only for dental treatment use.
(2) Disconnect
Slide back the Connector Ring as shown in Fig. 2.
3. Connecting/Disconnecting Handpiece

(1) Connecting
1) Insert the Coupling into the Hose Connector.
2) Tighten the Hose Nut.
3) Pull the Connector Ring
4) Push into the handpiece into Coupling.
Worn or damaged O-ring may cause air or water to leak.
When water is found in the exhaust air or water leak from the coupled point, replace our O-rings as shown in
Fig. 13.

8. Non-Retraction Valve (QD Coupling)
To prevent oral fluids drawn into the water line, QD coupling has Non-Retraction valve. If water is beginning
to leaking from handpiece, replace non-retraction valve.
1) Remove the back-end gasket.
2) Replace Non-Retraction Valve.
9. Option Parts List
· Ensure connect “Coupling and Hose” or “Handpiece and Coupling” firmly.
· Do not pull the Connector Ring while the handpiece is under air pressure. It may jump the handpiece out from the connector because of the air
pressure.
CAUTION
· To prevent infectiveness, Autoclave the handpiece every patient.
· Do not autoclave the handpiece, even when it is bagged, together with other instruments, from which chemicals are not sufficiently cleaned.
This is to avoid discoloration and/or damage to the plating of the handpiece.
CAUTION
· Make sure that the O-Ring is removed, when removing the Cartridge. O-Ring might be remained in the Head, when removing the Cartridge. If
there is a remained O-Ring, the new Cartridge can not be inserted properly.
· Use only NSK genuine cartridge. If you use other cartridge, specification may not be satisfied and we can not warranty of this situation.
· The head cap screw thread is very fine. To prevent damage to the thread always first tighten the handpiece head cap using fingers, then
secure with the head cap wrench.
· Make sure that the O-ring (Fig. 12) is correctly located on the cartridge.
CAUTION
· Do not wash, soak, or wipe off the handpiece with/in the oxidation potential solution (strong acid, super acid solution) sterilized solution, strong
alkaline solution or functional water.
· The handpiece is kept in suitable atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, ventilation, and sunlight. Moreover, air does not include a dust,
salt and sulfur.
· Do not touch the handpiece just after the autoclave. It may be very hot.
· NSK do not recommend you to sterilize on plasma sterilization or EOG sterilization.
(2) Disconnect
Loosen the Hose Nut and and remove from the
Hose.

(1) Connecting
1) Insert the handpiece correctly into the hose
connector and tighten the Hose Nut. (Fig. 3)
2) Make sure the handpiece is connected firmly
to the hose.

5. Maintenances
1) Insert a dummy bur into the chuck.
2) Unscrew the Head Cap by turning counter-clockwise and remove.
3) Push up the dummy bur upwards to remove Cartridge.
4) Clean the interior of the Head casing.
5) Insert the new Cartridge.
6) Replace the Head Cap and firmly screw into place.

CAUTION
· Do not use any bur longer than recommended by NSK in Specification.
· Do not use bent, worn, damaged, or non-concentric burs. Such burs can cause damage to the handpiece.
· Do not exceed the bur speed recommended by the bur manufacturer.
· Always keep the bur shank clean. Entry of hard debris into the chuck via the bur shank could cause rotation slip and also prevent the bur from
being securely located in the chuck.
