Setting Sleep Mode

The

Sleep Mode

function is another feature available for conserving battery life. If this feature

is enabled, when the modem is not actively sending or receiving data, it will enter a low current
consumption mode called

sleep mode

. To change the

Sleep Mode

setting, tap its drop-down list

box and select either

Disabled

or

Enabled

,

as shown in Figure 45.

Note:

The new Palm operating system, version 4.0, has been changed to disable Palm's Auto
Power Off functionality if an active PPP session is established. The Minstrel m500 Modem
Manager uses an active PPP session to retrieve and display modem status information. As a
result, the Palm m500 will not Auto Power Off or enter sleep mode properly while the Modem
Manager application is in use. To conserve both your Palm and Minstrel m500's batteries, it is
recommended that you manually power off both units when not in use.
