Installing the NovaScale Blade Server in the NovaScale Blade
Chassis unit
The following illustration shows how to install the NovaScale Blade Server into the NovaScale
Blade Chassis unit.
Complete the following steps to install a NovaScale Blade Server in the NovaScale Blade Chassis
unit:

CAUTION:
Hazardous energy is present when the NovaScale Blade Server is connected to the power
source. Always replace the blade cover before installing the NovaScale Blade Server.
1. Read the safety information beginning on page iii and “Installation guidelines” on page 19
through “Handling static-sensitive devices” on page 19.
2. If you have not done so already, install any options that you want, such as SCSI drives or
memory, in the NovaScale Blade Server.
3. Select the bay for the NovaScale Blade Server.
Notes:
a. If the NovaScale Blade Server has an expansion unit installed on it, the NovaScale Blade
Server and expansion option require two adjacent bays.
b. When any NovaScale Blade Server or option is in either blade bay 7 through 14 in the
NovaScale Blade Chassis unit, power modules must be present in all four power bays.
c. To help ensure proper cooling, performance, and system reliability, make sure that each of
the blade bays on the front of the NovaScale Blade Chassis unit has a NovaScale Blade
Server, expansion unit, or filler blade installed. Do not operate the system unit without either
