Nortel VPN Router Installation — VPN Router 1750

1000BASE-T (1000 MT) Ethernet interface card

Use the 1000BASE-T (1000 MT) Ethernet interface card to connect to Gigabit
Ethernet interfaces on other devices in your network, as well as to provide
increased throughput. This interface card has a single RJ-45 connector.

Figure 34

shows the 1000BASE-T (1000 MT) Ethernet interface card.

The port on the 1000BASE-T Ethernet interface card accommodates an RJ-45
straight-through cable. Select cables for this port as follows:

•

For 1000BASE-T operation, use Category 5 four-pair Ethernet wiring. The
cable must comply with the TIA 568 wiring specification. Nortel recommends
a maximum length of 100 meters for the cable segment.

•

For 100BASE-TX operation, use Category 5 twisted-pair wiring: one pair
each for transmit and receive operations. The cable must comply with the

EIA 568 wiring specification. Nortel recommends a maximum length of 100
meters for the cable segment.

•

For 10BASE-T operation, use Category 3, 4, or 5 twisted-pair wiring.
