Hazardous area:
An area in a plant or facility with a hazardous atmosphere
where explosive gases may mix with air and explode or start a
fire. An area where gas may be present.
Non hazardous area:
An area where electric equipment that has no potential to create
a hazardous atmosphere.
Hazardous atmosphere:
Atmosphere within the explosive limit where explosive gas and
air are mixed.
LEL:
Lower Explosive Limit.
The lowest concentration of flammable
gas that will explode when mixed with air and ignited.
