7.4 Functional test
The functional procedure below clarifies the interaction of the system components
during a welding process.
Warning:
•
Before each time work begins, a welding expert must perform a
functional test.
Depending on the system configuration, the following distinctions are to be made:
•
Standard operation:
Standard operation includes configuration of the ALPHA 850 welding device with a
manually loaded NS 40 B/SL gun.
•
Automatic mode:
Automatic mode involves configuration of the ALPHA 850 welding device with an
NSA 606 M/NON AUTO “manual mode” sorter and a PFL 901 gun with automatic
stud loading.
•
Standard operation:
1.
Set the mechanical weld parameters on the gun. The settings can be found in the
NS 40 operating manual.
2.
Turn the ALPHA 850 on. If welding is being done under shielding gas (optional), a
toggle switch on the back of the device must also be turned on.
When the welding device is turned on, the “System voltage” LED goes on.
The welding gun is supplied with 90 VDC and 24 VDC.
3.
Select the appropriate weld process (short cycle/drawn arc).
The operating mode selector switch setting determines the weld time range.
Short cycle process:
10 ms – 100 ms
Drawn arc process:
0.1 s – 1.0 s
4.
Load a stud into the gun’s stud holder. For welding with ceramic rings, the ceramic
ring holder must be loaded correspondingly.
