SUBJECT: LC800/Cleaning Procedures
Q : How do you clean your LC800 Series printer? Can you vacuum it?
A: NEC Technical Support does not recommend the use of a household vacuum cleaner to clean the LC800 series printers for two
reasons. First, the toner is made up of fine particles; using a household vacuum cleaner would require special filters to trap the
toner. Second, if the particles of the toner that adhere to the developer unit are vacuumed off, the print quality will be drastically
reduced.
Before you begin cleaning, check the paper stock for blemishes. Occasionally, a ream of paper has had a mark or blemish in the
same spot on several sheets which could be inadvertently blamed on the printer.
The area that causes most print quality problems, is generally a spill located between the fuser unit and the rib plate. It ma y
however be a spill anywhere in the paper path. To determine where the toner spill is:
1 . Wipe the toner off the paper path with a dry cloth. DO NOT USE ANY SOLVENTS.
2 . Check the eject unit. Run a piece of paper out of the face up slot, if it is free of toner the problem is in the eject eject unit.
3 . Open the cover after the paper has been completely inserted into the printer and check the PC drum. The file to be printed
will appear on the green drum in reverse just as it is being transferred to the paper. A bad PC drum or an electrical malfunction
(requiring Service) will leave unwanted marks as well.
4 . Open the cover again when the paper is half ejected from the printer. Check the paper path in the machine and the paper
for any unwanted marks. If unable to find any loose toner within the machine or if the toner continues to spill, the printer should
be sent in for servicing.
