SETTING UP SCALABLE NETWORKING PACK (SNP)
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Scalable Networking Pack (SNP) is a module that improves
network throughputs by offloading the packet processing to the specific network adapter.
SNP supports the following operating systems:
– Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions
– Windows Server 2003
SNP has the following features:

TCP Chimney Offload
TCP Chimney Offload feature can reduce the CPU overhead by offloading networking
tasks such as packet division and packet reconstruction to the network adapter.

Receive-side Scaling
Receive-side Scaling enables packet receive-processing to scale with the number of
available CPUs. The network processing load is balanced between the CPUs.
„
NetDMA
Normally, the memory transfer operation of network data is performed by the CPU. Using
DMA (Direct Memory Access) of the network adapter for that process can reduce CPU
utilization.
IMPORTANT: The onboard network adapter and optional network
board (N8403-017/020/021/022) do not support TCP Chimney
Offload feature.

Follow steps below to use SNP.
IMPORTANT:
It is recommended to make a backup copy of system
configuration data before starting setup.
1.
Start the system and log-in the system in account with the administrator authority.
2.
Run the following command on Explorer or command prompt:
– Windows Server 2003:
WindowsServer2003-KB912222-v9-x86-JPN.exe
– Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions:
WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB912222-v9-x64-JPN.exe
3.
If a Security Alert appears, click [Run].
4.
Unzip the file and click [Next].
