4. If necessary, recover the information from backup media.
Using RDR to Mirror Dynamic System Disks
If your system contains VTMs, you can convert system disks that are dynamic to disks
that are mirrored with RDR, and that are also dynamic.
To use RDR to mirror dynamic system disks
1. If necessary, insert and latch the pair of disks that contain the mirrored system
volumes and boot the system.
2. As a precaution, back up the disks.
N O T E
This procedure does not require you to back up and
restore the information from backup media. Back up the
information solely as a precaution.
3. Make sure that I/O enclosure 10 is primary: Open ftServer Management Console
(ftSMC), expand ftServer I/O Enclosures, I/O Enclosure - 10, and examine the
Opstate:Reason
property. If the value is
Primary
, go to step 4 . If the value is
Secondary
, do the following:
a. In ftSMC, expand VTM Adapter - 3 or VTM Adapter - 4, and right-click VTM
Config.
b. Click Set Primary.
4. Open Disk Management: Right-click My Computer and click Manage. Then
expand Computer Management and Storage, and click Disk Management.
5. Make sure that both system disks are active and mirrored.
6. In the Remove Mirror dialog box, select and right-click the system disk in I/O
enclosure 11 and click Remove Mirror. When you receive a message asking
Are
you sure you want to remove the mirror
, click Yes.
7. Revert the system disk in I/O enclosure 11 to basic.
8. In ftSMC, add the physical disk in I/O enclosure 11 to an RDR virtual disk. See
“Using RDR to Mirror Disks in Internal Storage” on page 3-8 .
9. In your disk-management tool, convert the disk in I/O enclosure 11 to a dynamic
disk, and add the disk to the volume mirror that contains the system disk. See the
online Help for your disk-management tool.
Wait for the disks to resynchronize before continuing.
