2.32 Setting Rate of Turn Control … (Continued).
Automatic ROT Calibration:-
Note
– Automatic ROT Calibration must only be used when the Autopilot System is
connected to a Rudder Reference Unit giving continuous rudder position information.
(i)
Press the Autopilot STANDBY key to switch to STANDBY mode. With the
vessel at normal steaming/cruising speed and when safe to do so manually
steer the vessel in a circle at a high ROT well within the safe turning
capabilities of the vessel.
(ii)
When the Rate Of Turn has become constant,
enter the Set Up Menu
via 5 seconds simultaneous operation of the
CANCEL
and
CONFIRM
keys.
(iii) Use the Autopilot Set Course knob to scroll through the Set Up Parameters
until
‘ROT CALIBRATE’
is displayed (8
th
parameter).
(iv) Press the AUTOTRIM SET key to instantaneously set the ROT calibration
value.
(v) Exit the Set Up Menu (simultaneous 5 second operation of the
CANCEL
and
CONFIRM
keys).
To Adjust the ROT Calibration Value Manually proceed as follows:-
Manual ROT Calibration:-
(i)
If the Autopilot is not already in STANDBY mode press the
STANDBY
key.
Enter the Set Up Menu via 5 second simultaneous operation of the
CANCEL
and
CONFIRM
keys.
(Vessel now under manual steering control).
(ii) Use the Autopilot Set Course knob to scroll through the Set Up Parameters
until
‘ROT CALIBRATION’
is displayed (8
th
parameter) and read the
number displayed in the centre column.
(iii) Rotate the illum control (+/-) to increase or decrease the value shown (as
required).
(iv) Exit the Set Up Menu (simultaneous 5 second operation of the
CANCEL
and
CONFIRM
keys).

TO SET RATE OF TURN (Operational):-
Once Rate of Turn mode has been selected and set, any turns or heading
changes ordered will be limited to the °/sec or °/min level set and any attempt
to increase the operational value will be ultimately limited by the absolute safe
maximum ROT programmed. (Section 2.33).
