Balanced (Mono)
Modulating audio must be applied from an external source to the
BALANCED ANALOG AUDIO
XLR
connector J9 on the control/interface PWB (A4). The audio source must be balanced, able to drive a

load, and produce a level between -10 and +12 dBm for 100% modulation.
Only one analog input is provided. Program content from the input is applied to both exciters.
AES/EBU
AES/EBU must be applied from an external source to
ANALOG AES/EBU
XLR connector J7 or J8 on the
control/interface PWB (A4). The external source must produce a level between -30 and 0 dBFS for 100%
modulation.
Digital Broadcasting Inputs
The NX5 has the following inputs for digital broadcasting:
IBOC
To use an IBOC (In Band On Channel) input, the NX5 requires the optional exgine PWB (A7). The exgine
PWB accepts the digital audio and data stream from an Importer/Exporter arrangement via a LAN (local
area network) connection to the Exgine PWB’s
ETHERNET connector J1 and, in conjunction with the
control/interface PWB (A4), provides the LVDS signals (I and Q) to the exciter.

DRM
To use a DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) input, the NX5 requires an external DRM modulator and content
server. The DRM modulator accepts the digital audio and data stream from the content server via a LAN
connection and provides the baseband I and Q signals to one of the
AES/EBU XLR connectors (J7 or J8)
on the control/interface PWB (A4), in AES/EBU format.
