SECTION 1.4: COOLING REQUIREMENTS
This section provides information about heating and cooling requirements for the NX5 transmitter site.

Air Flow
There are two configurations for drawing cooling air through the NX5 - open air cooling and closed air
cooling. The NX5 has redundant cooling fans to ensure effective cooling.
Open Air Configuration (Standard)
In an open air configuration (see Figure 1.4.1 on page 1.4.2 ), cooling air is drawn through an air filter in
the back of the transmitter. Air circulates down into the base of the transmitter, and is then pushed up
through the front rack of the transmitter by a set of fans. Warm air exits the transmitter through the grill
at the top of the transmitter. Exhaust air may or may not be ducted away from the transmitter.
Closed Air Configuration (Optional)
In a closed air configuration, cool air is supplied through an intake duct at the top of the transmitter,
near the rear (see
Figure 1.4.1 on page 1.4.2 ). The air circulates inside the transmitter and exhausts in
the same manner as the open air cooling option. In this configuration, filtered cooling air must be
ducted to the intake grill and the exhaust air must be ducted away from the transmitter.
Closed air cooling requires an optional panel to cover the filter cut-out in the rear door. This panel
(Nautel Part # 212-5052) is available from Nautel.
