The
GEMC

SMK
and
GEMC

WL

SMK

are high
-
quality photoelectric
smoke detectors with integral supervised digitally
-
coded radio transmitters.
During normal operation, when a detector is in standby mode and is within
proper sensitivity limits, its green LED flashes once every 10 seconds. As
soon as smoke is detected, the detector sounds a local alarm and the
transmitter sends an alarm signal to the supervised receiver (operating
frequency: 319.5Mhz). The alarm signal is repeated as long as smoke is
present. A restore report is sent when the smoke detection chamber
clears. Supervision status reports are sent from the detector every hour.
UL 864 COMPLIANCE
The
GEMC

WL

SMK

is intended for use with GEMC series panel in-
stallations Certified to UL 864 10th edition using firmware version 90.69
or greater. These versions of GEMC series panels will detect an inoper-
ative transmitter within 200 seconds and will annunciate/report the asso-
ciated supervisory trouble (E
-
04). The
GEMC
-
WL
-
SMK
-

is also Certi-
fied for use in UL 864 9th edition versions of the previous GEMC series
panels. Do not use the
GEMC
-
WL
-
SMK
(without the "

") with installa-
tions using the GEMC panels certified with UL standard UL 864 10th
edition as this will cause supervisory troubles from the transmitter, gener-
ating an error report within 200 seconds and then every hour. The
GEMC
-
WL
-
SMK
can be used in 9th edition installations that detect inop-
erative transmitters within 4 hours and can also be used with UL 864
10th edition installations when the AHJ approves 4
-
hour supervision with
the GEMC control panel (versions 90.69 or greater) that are not pro-
grammed for "
WL Fire 200 Sec. Supervision
".
Note:
Both model de-
tectors require at least one
GEMC

RECV
in the system.
Note:
Coding
switches are not required or used; each transmitter is assigned a unique
identification code number at the factory. A maximum of 50 wireless
devices are allowed per system. These devices include the GEMC

Low Battery Warning
The smoke detector and transmitter are powered by one 3
-
volt lithium battery (supplied) that can power the unit for at
least one year. If battery voltage drops below normal, a low
battery report is sent to the panel for a period of 48 hours; if
the voltage is still below normal after this time, the detector
sounder will chirp and its red LED will flash every 45 sec-
onds.
Note:
Unit shuts down after 7 days. A low
-
battery
report is sent to the receiver with any status or alarm trans-
mission. If a low
-
battery condition is indicated, always re-
place battery.
NOTE:
Temperature and humidity extremes may reduce
the life of the battery. The detector is designed to prevent
re
-
mounting to the mounting plate without the battery in-
stalled.
Use Only Battery Specified In Marking. Use of A
Different Battery May Have A Detrimental Effect On Detec-
tor Operation and may present a risk of fire, burns or explo-
sion
.
CAUTION:
Do not recharge, disassemble, heat
above 100°C (212°F), or incinerate. Dispose of used bat-
teries promptly and according to local codes. Keep away
from children.
Remove the mounting plate.
Remove the
mounting plate by turning the plate counter
-
clockwise and pulling it up.
Identify components.
Examine the detector to
identify the component locations.
Install battery.
Place one 3
-
volt lithium Duracell
DL123A, Varta/Power
-
One model CR123A or
Panasonic CR123A in its battery compartment,
observing correct polarity. Install battery and enroll the
detector into the control panel before mounting. During
power up and status initialization, both the green and
red LED's blink four times in unison. Then press the
TEST
button once to complete installation.
