CYLINDER BORE 
 

ADVICE: 
* Ream the four cylinders to bring them to the top diameter 
of the piston external diameter. 
* Replace worn rings to match them with the pistons at top 
diameter. 

 

1.  SELECT PISTONS AT TOP DIMENSION

2.  CALCULATE THE AMOUNT OF MATERIAL TO 

REAM OUT IN THE CYLINDERS 
 

a.  Using a micrometer, measure the diameter of the piston at right 

angles to the geometrical centre line of the piston pin hole and 
at the specified distance of 58.8 mm from the inner edge of the 
piston skirt. 

b.  Calculate the amount of material to ream off in each cylinder 

using the following formula: 

Amount of material to ream to reach the dimension = 
P+C-H 
P = piston diameter 
C = Piston clearance: 

 

0.050 – 0.070 mm 

H = running in tolerance: 

Less than 0.02 mm 

 
 
 

3.  REAM AND LAP CYLINDERS AT CALCULATED 

DIMENSIONS 
 

Maximum lap value: 

 

0.02 mm
