3 Function
SAR 30 L is a breathing air regeneration apparatus
which supplies the user with oxygen, developed by
the chemical (KO
2
). Carbon dioxide and humidity of
the exhaled air react with the chemical and are re-
tained, simultaneously oxygen is liberated in propor-
tion to the breathing intensity (demand controlled
oxygen supply). For the initial phase of usage the
apparatus has a quick starter, which automatically is
starting the system at donning, and delivering addi-
tional oxygen.
SAR 30 L is independent of the ambient atmos-
phere. The exhalation air is delivered from the
breathing connection (full face mask and breathing
tube) through the regeneration canister into the
breathing bag. The inhalation air is taken reversely
from the breathing bag (pendulum type breathing).
SAR 30 L has an electronic warning signal, releasing
approx. 20 minutes after donning an audible and
visible signal for approx. 10 minutes. The warning
signal limits the operation time under breathing pro-
tection to 30 minutes maximum, even though the
apparatus possibly is not spent entirely. The warning
signal is started automatically by pulling the actuator
pin at donning the face mask.
The surplus valve (chain valve) opens only when the
breathing bag is full. Air intrusion from outside into
the breathing bag is prevented by a non-return valve.
4 Design and Construction
The principle design and the air flow [exhalation (a) /
inhalation (b)] are illustrated in the schematics on the
right hand side. The main components of the appa-
ratus are:
