• Check the vehicle and the speed controller/motor for damage. If you discover any damage, do
not operate the vehicle or the speed controller/motor anymore.
• Before recharging the rechargeable battery, disconnect it from the speed controller.
Installation
• If the product is to be used as a replacement for an existing speed controller, first remove the
old speed controller from your model.
• Install the speed controller in the chassis. Choose a position which is as far away as possible
from the receiver. The speed controller should not be directly next to the motor either.
• You can use Velcro or double-sided tape to attach the speed controller. The speed controller
must be installed so that it is exposed to sufficient driving wind (cooling air).
• Connect the cables of the speed controller to those of the motor. Observe the colour coding.
The forward/reverse motion of the motor is then correct in combination with the speed
controller. Blue cable = motor minus, yellow cable = motor plus. If the motor is rotating in the
wrong direction (depending on the transmission of the vehicle), simply swap the two motor
connections. The motor now rotates in the opposite direction.
• The on/off switch should be attached so that it can be operated easily. Use Velcro or double-
sided tape to attach the switch.
• Install all cables so that they cannot become entangled in rotating or moving parts of the vehicle.
Use cable ties to secure them.
Connection to the Receiver
Connect the three-pole plug of the speed controller to the corresponding channel of the receiver.
Make sure the assignment on the receiver is correct (see operating instructions of the receiver
as well as the information on the receiver).
Yellow/white/orange cable: Control signal
Red cable: Operating voltage
Brown/black cable: Earth/GND/Minus
Since the speed controller is equipped with a BEC, no receiver battery or rechargeable
battery must be used! The receiver is powered directly through the speed controller
by the vehicle battery. If a separate receiver is to be used instead of the integrated
BEC, the middle, red, wire of the three-pole receiver plug of the speed controller must
be interrupted.
If several speed controllers are operated in one model and the BEC is to be used for
the receiver’s power supply, the red wired must be disconnected in all but one
controller. Non-observance will destroy the speed controllers! Loss of guarantee/
warranty!
Programming
The speed controller can be programmed very easily with a single button
“Battery type”:
You may choose between “NiCd/NiMH” and “LiPo” battery types.
• Turn the transmitter on and the speed controller off.
• Connect the speed controller to the battery and keep the button at the speed controller pressed.
The speed controller is wired in the correct polarity with a Tamiya plug system ex
works. However, ensure that polarity is correct before first connection to the battery.
Red = Plus pole, Black = Minus pole.
• Switch on the speed controller with the button pressed (do not release the button!). First the
green, then after approx. 2 seconds the blue LED lights up. If you want to set the battery type
NiCd/NiMH, release the button when the green LED is lit. If you want to select the LiPo battery
type, release the button when the blue LED is lit.
When you have released the button, the selected battery type is stored. For a short time, all
LEDs flash. When the throttle at the transmitter is in its neutral position, the red and green LEDs
are lit for the NiCd/NiMH battery type. For the LiPo battery type, the blue LED will also be
permanently lit.
If the LEDs are not lit as described, the throttle trim and/or the respective neutral
position was not set correctly. On this, see the following chapter “Calibrating the speed
controller with transmitter”.
Only the LiPo battery type has an undervoltage cut-off. For incorrect setting of the
battery type or when connecting batteries that are not fully charged, the batteries may
be damaged (e.g. deep discharge).
“Calibrating the speed controller with transmitter”:
Use this function to teach the control signals of the transmitter’s throttle lever (full throttle forwards/
reverse and neutral position) to the speed controller (calibration). The throttle lever and throttle
trimming position should be in neutral position at this moment in the best case. For full throttle
forwards or backwards, standardised values are determined.
• Turn the transmitter on and the speed controller off.
• Connect the speed controller to the battery and switch on the controller. All LEDs will flash in
sequence for approx. two seconds.
You need to start teaching during this period. Otherwise, the teaching procedure is
interrupted and the previously stored values are used.
Speed Controller „VR Pro“
Item no. 20 89 72
Intended Use
The speed controller is used for smooth electronic speed control for carbon-brush motors and is
connected to a free channel of the receiver in a model vehicle. The speed controller is
programmed with the help of the integrated programming card.

Safety Information
Attention! The guarantee/warranty will be void if damage is incurred resulting
from non-compliance with the operating instructions. We do not assume any
responsibility for consequential damage!
We do not assume any liability for damage to property or personal injury
caused by improper use or the failure to observe the safety instructions! In
such cases the warranty/guarantee is void.
• The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is prohibited for safety and
approval reasons (CE). Never disassemble the product. There are no components inside the
housing that need to be adjusted or serviced by you. Furthermore, the guarantee/warranty
would also expire in such a case!
• The product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children!
• Disconnect the rechargeable battery from the speed controller whenever the speed controller
is not needed. The speed controller can be temporarily switched off using the on/off switch.
• The speed controller is designed for 6-10 cell NiMH/NiCd batteries 2-3-cell LiPo batteries.
• The maximum permissible speed controller output is limited to 222 Watt for 5 minutes.
Depending on the battery voltage used, this results in different maximum permissible currents.
For this, always observe the technical data in these operating instructions. If the threshold
values are not observed, the motor and/or speed controller can be destroyed. Loss of
guarantee/warranty!
• Both speed controller and the battery may become very hot during operation. Danger of burns!
• Handle the product with care. It can be damaged by impact, blows or when dropped even from
a low height.
• Do not leave packaging material unattended. It may become a dangerous toy for children.
• When operating vehicles, make sure that no body parts or other objects come into contact with
moving parts. Risk of injury!
• Always use a battery pack to operate the speed controller. Never use a wall power supply.
• Only connect a single carbon-brush motor to the speed controller.
• The speed controller is not suitable for the operation of brushless motors with three connec-
tions!
• When installing the components, keep the greatest possible distance between the receiver and
the speed controller/motor to avoid interference.
• Do not install the aerial cable of the receiver in a parallel position to current-carrying cables. Do
not coil up the aerial cable. For example, use an aerial tube which protrudes from the vehicle
in a perpendicular position.
• Always turn on the transmitter first and put the steering and trimming levers for motor control
in their neutral positions. Then the speed controller may be connected to a battery pack and
switched on.
Attention! The speed controller does not have any protective circuit to prevent unintended
motor start-up if the transmitter is not set to neutral when the battery is connected! Risk of injury!
• When switching off, proceed in reverse order – first switch off the speed controller and
disconnect it from the rechargeable battery, then switch off the transmitter.
• When the model is operated, the speed controller must be cooled sufficiently.
• Do not block the drive. The resulting currents may destroy the motor and/or speed controller.
• Observe a smooth drive section and perform regular maintenance.
