Using Removable Media Modules
This section is intended as a tutorial for using your DataDock unit, removable media module and its media.
Because there are a variety of different modules available for the DataDock, this section is not specific to a
particular module. If you would like more detailed instructions, refer to the media insertion and removal
sections for your module in the DataDock Modules User’s Guide .
Starting up the Computer
1.
Turn on the DataDock and insert its modules.
2.
Insert media into the modules.
3.
Allow the module time to ready the media, then power on the other peripherals connected to the
computer and allow them sufficient time to power up.
“Peripherals” are external devices connected to the computer such as scanners, modems, printers and
SCSI devices.
4.
Turn on the computer.
If you intend to regularly use a re-writable disk cartridge, such as a Jaz, SyQuest, or re-writable optical
cartridge, in the DataDock, it is recommended that you first prepare the cartridge with DataDock compatible
disk utility software. This prevents long term mounting problems. In Macintosh applications, disk cartridges
can be prepared with the MicroNet Utility software using the Auto…feature.
!
Before preparing media, remember to backup its data. Disk utilities permanently erase data
during the preparation procedure.
Ejecting Media from the Module
1.
Make sure all programs and files using the media are closed.
2.
Drag the media’s icon(s) into the Trash if the DataDock is connected to a powered on Macintosh
otherwise press the module’s Eject button.
3.
Remove the media from the module and place it back in its protective case.
